We can escape to a warm place and enjoy the sunshine in the Philippines. In the Philippines, there are a lot of spots with the magnificent natural views. There are Taal Volcano and Pagsanjan Falls. I will introduce you these 2 places. The first spot is Taal Volcano. It is located about 60km south from Manila. It’s between the city of Tagaytay and Batangas. This volcano is very interesting because it is a double volcano with 2 calderas. The big caldera is Taal Lake has an island, Taal, inside it. Inside the island there is a small caldera named Yellow Lake. It is an inactive volcano, but it’s still alive. Sometimes, you can see the geyser around the caldera. It has been active since 1999. Many tourists visit this place for its splendid view. When you drive down from the volcano along the ridge², you can see Lake Taal. Get on a boat and sail for about 25 minutes. It will take you to the island. There are two ways to get to the volcano. One way is by horseback-riding and the other is to hike by foot. On the way up, you will be exposed to the sun and a lot of dust, so you will need to prepare a mask and hat for protection. When you arrive at the peak, you will see an observatory with canteens selling coconut juice, soft drinks, and souvenirs. Many tourists from different countries rest there to enjoy the panoramic view from the observatory. You can also see yellowish waves in Yellow Lake. Around the lake, there are trees and grass. The amazing volcano combined with the awesome sky view makes you feel relaxed. People feel cool and relief from the hot and dry weather. One tourist, Kent, from U.S.A said, “When I was climbing the mountain, it was so hot and the dusts made me so tired. But now here on top, in the grand presence³ of nature it was worth it.”
The next place is Pagsanjan Falls. This falls is located in the small city of Pagsanjan, 100km southeast from Manila. It is also called Magdapio Falls. The height is 91m. There are many smaller waterfalls falls on the way up. Behind the Pagsanjan falls, there is a small cave called Devil’s Cave, which looks like the Devil. Currently, Pagsanjan Falls is a must-see attraction for tourists who want to have a fun experience with great scenery. To reach Pagsanjan Falls, you must go to Pagsanjan city. When you arrive, you will see docks along the riverbanks. You can choose one to go up to the falls. Since you are sailing up stream, it’s torrential so you might get wet. You need to prepare a raincoat or extra clothes. In addition, it’s also sunny, so, you should prepare a parasol or hat. Along the river, you will see cliffs with smaller falls on the sides. It will feel as though the rocks and sands will fall down at any moment. Occasionally, you can see wild animals such as monkeys. You can admire the scenery on the canoe ride. It will relax your mind. After sailing for about 30 minutes, you will arrive at the scenic spot of the falls. Like the Taal Volcano, there are canteens selling coconut juice, soft drinks, and barbecue. At the end of the spot, there is a bamboo raft going to the Devil’s Cave across the falls. You can feel the water falling on your head as if it is giving you a head massage. Most tourists ride a raft to enjoy their experience. I asked a young boy No, Su-Yun from Korea, “What is the most memorable moment in Pagsanjan Falls for you?” He answered, ”Riding the bamboo raft was the most memorable for me. It was really fun!” When you visit Pagsanjan Falls for the first time, you will be charmed by the splendid view. You will also be charmed by the enjoyable experience of riding on the cliff-hanging canoe and bamboo raft. You can also drop by the Calamba Springs on the way back from the falls. There is a hot spring spa there. There are many more great places to visit in Philippines. If you have any chance to visit Philippines, I hope you enjoy your winter vacation in Philippines.
